The Family Mentoring program provides a weekly mentoring encounter to at-risk families. Trained volunteers will provide interactive education on parenting skills, family values/rules definition and other character development issues. Local service providers who offer public mentoring programs and access to computers, such as School Districts, Boys/Girls Club, YM/WCA & Community Centers, will facilitate the mentoring programs with the following objectives:
  1. Provide existing family and community service organizations (Service Providers) with Family Works ProActive™ software to install in their computer lab for use by local students, parents and mentors.
  2. Provide training, tutorials and evaluation resources to assist the mentor in helping teach families the use and benefits of ProActive™.
  3. Families can visit their SP to use ProActive with the assistance of their mentor to: schedule chores/homework, reconcile completed chores from the previous week, update their house rules and family values and print a schedule for the upcoming week.
  4. Offers individual mentors who possess a balance of parenting and computer experience a gratifying opportunity to mentor two or three families in their local community.
  5. Gives at risk families a resource during times of family problems & personal crisis.
  6. Provides a test base to measure the degree of academic and social progress realized in children with Family Works vs. those without.
  7. Helps to break the cyclical chain of dysfunctional family behavior.
  8. Gives low-income families the life skills and mentorship they need to be competitive in education, goal setting, money management and entrepreneurship.
